Our Doctor

Joseph P. Grieco, Jr., DDS, FAGD

Dr. Grieco earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychobiology from UCLA and Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Georgetown University. He has been practicing dentistry since 1982.

Dr. Grieco’s interest in becoming a dentist was due to the influence of his family dentist, Dr. Richard Cowan, in Redondo Beach, California. While attending UCLA, Dr. Grieco had the opportunity to work in the Los Angeles Free Clinic as a dental assistant. Dr. Grieco saw firsthand that the dentist was able to relieve discomfort almost immediately. As a result, “I never viewed the dentist as one who causes pain, but rather, as one who alleviates it.”

Upon graduating from UCLA, Dr. Grieco attended the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. He spent six months learning Spanish and lived with a Mexican family during that time. After two years, he transferred to Georgetown University’s School of Dentistry in Washington, DC where he completed his studies in 1982. The Lord used the experience in Mexico to prepare Dr. Grieco for doing mission work in Honduras and Guatemala. “Proverbs 16:2 says, ‘The mind of a man plans his ways, but the Lord directs his steps.’ That was certainly the case with me!”

As a young graduate, Dr. Grieco met Dr. Ralph Gibson, who mentored him and guided him in his new career. The two of them practiced together for over 10 years. Dr. Gibson was very progressive in dentistry and his influence was immeasurable.

In 1994, Dr. Grieco opened his own practice in Fairfax City. Since that time, there have been dramatic changes in materials and techniques available to dentistry. For his pursuit of continuing education, Dr. Grieco was made a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) in 2004. Although Dr. Grieco always strives to utilize the latest expertise and technology for his patients, he also wishes to be known for his compassionate care and gentle touch.

Dr. Grieco resides in Fairfax, Virginia and enjoys playing guitar, kayaking and spending time with his two adult daughters.

Dental Assistant

Because I love helping people, being a dental assistant is the perfect fit for me. I left my practice in San Francisco and joined Dr. Grieco's team in April of 2016. I have enjoyed meeting the many patients here, and I have to say, I am a fan of Dr. Grieco's funny stories. My teammates all know that organization of all things dental is a top priority of mine. In addition to my responsibilities here, I am furthering my education in Community Health at George Mason University in 2017. For fun, I love going to the beach, dancing, and just being with my friends. In case you are wondering, I was born in Peru, but came to the States as a toddler and am fluent in Spanish. I just recently became a big sister for the first time and absolutely love it! If I'm not at Gentle Dental Care, I may be flying to California to see my family.

I graduated from Howard University in 2003 with a degree in dental hygiene. I joined Dr. Grieco’s team in 2006 and am happy to work in an environment where the patient’s needs are top priority. General dentistry is the perfect fit for me because of the variety of care that is offered. The span goes from caring for children to caring for adult patients with complex issues. It has been great getting to know our current patients and welcoming new patients to the practice. When I’m not working I enjoy traveling, playing tennis and relaxing at the beach. Of course what I love most is playing with my two little boys! My family and I live in Annandale. By the way, hablo Español!

Since joining the Gentle Dental Care family in the summer of 2015, I have enjoyed meeting our patients. My goal is to give each of you the best dental experience and care you deserve. I especially enjoy working with periodontal patients and helping them achieve their optimum dental health. Growing up in Michigan, I graduated from Ferris State University's dental hygiene program in 2006. I have lived in Northern Virginia since that time, and have grown to love the area. In my spare time, believe it or not, I LOVE attending conferences sponsored by the National Dental Hygiene Association. I also enjoy spinning and golfing. My vanity license plate, you ask? GUM DZZZ!

Sterilization Assistant

In 2001, I decided I wanted my teeth whitened. Fortunately for me, the office here needed temporary help, so I was allowed to work off the cost. I’m still here! This is a great place to work; it’s refreshing to be part of a team that truly values patients and strives to provide the best care possible. My job? I ensure that instruments are sparkling clean and sterile; I order supplies for the office, and I make sure everything is neatly stored in its proper place. Oh, if I’m not here, I may be jetting to California to visit my daughter, traveling with my husband to some other far-flung place, or playing with my three grandchildren. Thanks to the team here for working with me to make this possible.

Front Desk Team

Be careful about having a dentist for a friend – you just might end up working for him some day. That is what happened in the year 2000. Over the years I have learned a lot about dentistry, and I’ve had the opportunity to do a little bit of everything here. While I have enjoyed everything I’ve done, my focus now is keeping our office running as smoothly as possible. That’s easy to do since we have such a great team and great patients. My husband, Fred, and I live in Fairfax and enjoy our two adult children and our fun-loving dogs. When I have a lull in the activity, I enjoy reading, singing in a worship group at my church, and oh yes, my favorite, anything that has to do with S-N-O-W.

I joined the Gentle Dental team in 1999 and work at the front desk. My goal is to ease the anxiety of paying for the great dental service patients receive by maximizing their insurance benefits and setting up payment plans that help make dental treatment possible and affordable. I also make appointments and encourage patients to stay on a regular recall schedule. I love working here because of our great team and our wonderful patients. When not at work I spend my time volunteering at my church, reading, and working in my garden. My husband, Ralph, an avid Philly’s fan, and I live in Springfield and enjoy spending time with our two adult daughters and their husbands.

Though I have been working in the dental field since 1994, this is my favorite practice by far. Since joining Gentle Dental Care in 2005, I can say we are truly a team here. When you call us, I will be happy to schedule any appointments you may need for yourself or your family. If I call you, I will most likely be confirming a future appointment. I also work with patient accounts and prepare daily financial reports. I live in Fairfax with my family. They keep me very busy, but when I have free time, I enjoy good movies, good music and good coffee! Nos vemos pronto – translated means, “See you soon!”
